OXYGEN IS LIFE.

A LTHOUOH tlio njodern Materia Medica includes jruuiy valuable 'remedies for human afflictions, it is a matter of certainty that in nil cases where the animal vitality is falling Phosphorus is decidedly superior to every other remedy at present known. It will work effects such ns nothing else will'produce, and it possesses the great advantage of not causing, when its use is relinquished, the slightest reaction or depression.

The question naturally, presents itself, “Why is so valuable an element so little regarded and so seldom'■proscribed ?” The only'answer which can be given is :—That a certain difficulty lias been found in so preparing it that its action may he kept under perfect control. Hitherto it has been used in almond and olive oils, in sulphuric ether, in rcctiHed alcohol, in chloroform, and in several other substances • but however valuable it has been found in all the hitherto known methods of its preparation, certain irregular results have been 'experienced, which have led physj.eiaijs to neglect it for general purposes, ami to employ it only in extreme cases, and after eVery other remedy has failed. But a chemical process has now been discovered, by which its invaluable action on the human system may bo realised without any of those drawbacks which previous modes of administration have invariably produced.

«Sj'CAOTION._T>HOSPHOIIUS is sometimes sold in the form of Pills and Lozenges; it should be -generally-,known that every form whor e solid particles hi Phosphorus are in combination is dangerous,•• It is therefore V.eee'sisary' that' the- -public, shauhl be cautioned against the use of any preparation of Phosphorus not perfectly soluble in water.
