CLYDE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Coup. cil was held in the Council Chambers or Tuesday evening last, the Cth inst. Pr-sent S. We'sfor.l (Mayor), and Councillors Auck--1-n l, Beck, Clark, and Feraud. The rn’iiute- of previous meeting were read and confirmed. . The inward and outward correspondence was read ami received. Amongst the inward was letter from Bank of New Sou'h "Wales, intimating that Bridge debentures had been transferred to Mr C. Nichols, of Christchurch, and that the amount of advance LSOOO, less expenses, including cost of mortgage deed, T,4 4s, and exchange, L 6 13s, had been placed to the credit of the Corporation ; also letter from Mr W. Fraser, stating that he, at considerable trouble, bad suceeedel in negotiating a, fresh mortgage of the Clyde Bridge debentures from the Bank of New South Wales to Mr C. Nichols, of Christchurch, accompanied by mortgage deed and sample sheetsof debenture, register, and transfer books, which must be obtained and duly entered up. Cr Beck thought that a special vote of thanks was due to Mr W Fraser, for the satisfactory manner he had conducted the business of the Bridge debentures, and, would propose accordingly. Other Councillors speaking in support of such a motion, it was •Resolved—-That this Council desires to record a special vote of thanks to Mr W. Fraser for the very deep interest he has j taken in the town of Clyde, and for so sat iV, fact rily negotiating the mortgage of the Clyde Bridge debentures, and that the Town Clerk convey same to him by letter under the Corporation seal. Resolved—That the Town Clerk write to MrW. Fraser, and request him to supp’y the Council with his account of charges; and c >sts incurred in connection with the above. Resolved—That the Town Clerk inform Mr Inspector Moore that the Council ha* appointed Constable Parmenter to the office of Tnspcc‘or of Nuisances ; also to hand to Constable T’.vmenter his appointment in writing under the Town seal. Mr J. Patterson was appointed scavenger at the rate of 10s per week. Offer of Mr C. per annum, for three years in terms of advertisement, was read and refused, on tho ground that it was too low. Tho Mayor admitted the amount wv low, but thought the Council was not doing right by allowing the water to run to waste. In reply to a question by Mr Feraud, the Mayor said ho had not taken any steps against the parties who had injured the Corporation Water Race. Or Feraud— Ho had got his answer, and he would see further into it. Resolved—That fresh tenders bo invited for rental of the Corporation water rights from Wia Keri Keri Valley. The Town Clerk was instructed to get debenture, register, and transfer books printed. Accounts amounting to Ll9 I7s 6d, as recommended by the Finance Committee, were passed for payment. The notice of motion in name of Or Beck —That the meetings of the Council be fortnightly instead of monthly, was allowed to stand over till next meeting, to admit of a full Council being present. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
