On Saturday morning last, a man nam’d John M ‘Fee was charged before \V. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M., at Clyde, with att mpting to break into the cellar of the Port Phillip Hotel, during the night of the Thursday previous. Tho accused pleaded being chunk—several convictions being proved against him, he was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labor, in Dunedin gaol. “ It seems to me," said a customer to his barber, “ that in those hard times yon ought to lower your price for shaving." ’ “Can’t do it." replied tin barber. “Nowadays everybody wears such a long face that wo have a great deal more surface to • shave ever."
