RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, CLYDE.
October, IS, 1577. (Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M.,) T. Webb and W. Anderson were charged by tho police for lighting in the public streets of Clyde. Tho former after an admonition from the bench, was bound over to keep the pieace for six months, the latter for three months. C. T*. Beck, J. Cox, D. M'Phcrson, and C. Holden were separately and sevcra’ly charged and fined for al'owing cattle to wander in the streets of Clyde. C. Neiper, on remand fir stealing sheepskins, was again brought up. Mr Inspector Moore, who is conducting the prosecution, asked for a further remand for seven days, to enable Mr W. Fraser, of Earnscleugh .Station, and owner of the property, who at pireseir. ir engage I in Dunedin on a Royal (tuvuitaiw l , to gve his evidence.
Mr F. ,T. Wilson, counsel for accused, strongly objected to tho adjournment, arguing that the two charges against accused were very weak, and that the evidence so far failed in showing any dishonesty of purpose. Tho Bench admitted the weakness of tho charges as yet, but said as there was no telling what Mr Fraser's evidence would load up, he would grant the adjournment applied for, though he would not do so any more should Mr Fraser not be able to attend. Tho same hail was allowed.
