The Town Clerk was instructed to lay full information on the table at the nest ingCr Feraud said as tho Council was in treaty for the sale of the Bridge, he thought it desirable to decline the consideration of Mr Stewart’s offer at present. Resolved accordingly. Cr. Feraud proposed—That the offer nf M'Nally and party be not accepted, the Council not having the right to any water above a quarter of a mile above the Gorge. The Mayor asked what was intended to be done with the water, to allow it to lay i lie was tantamount to throwing money away, it was to the interest of the Council to rent the water if they could. Cr, Beck said, in seconding the motion his motive was to create discussion, and elicit as much information as possible relative to the water rights of the Corporation. The intent of M ‘Nolly he had but little doubt was to lift the water out of the Creek a distance above the proper head, and he did not think the Council had any right to let it. Cr. Feraud said his reason for tabling the motion was to prevent the Council from sheltering M‘Nally and Co.—if the water was let to M'Nally and narty he would sue tho Council. Cr. Clark would vote against the motion, but objected to letting the water without inviting tenders ; he would move an amendment, —“ That the words after received he struck out. Cr Feraud objected, saying he knew what he was doing. Cr Beck—l don’t ! On a division being taken Crs Feraud, Cox and Auckland voted for, and Crs Clark ( and Bock against.
