/Egles, in the Australasian says I have had an opportunity of learning some particulars of the manner in which the hanking firm of Coutts and Co. deals with its clerks. Of these there are ninety. They* commence •at LIOO a year, and are furnished with dinner daily--the latter considered equal to L3O n year additional ; it actually coats the hank 1/22 per annum per head without the beer which is supplied. The widow of a clerk of a certain standing is allowed a pension of LIOO a year, which, in the event of a second marriage, is reduced to LSO, and this is estimated as the equivalent of what 1,30 per annum invested in life assurance would produce. Within the last year one of the partners died, and bequeathed to each clerk 20 or 30 guineas, according to his standing in the hank. Vacancies in Coutts and Co., when they occur, don’t go a-begg-dug. They can get clerks.
