ALEXANDRA.
—o—The nieeting at Alexandra on Saturday evening last to consider tho advisability of constructing a traffic bridge across the Manuherikia instead of a foot bridge was welhattended. J. Samson, Esq., Mayor (in the chair), fully explained what had been done, and said though a foot bridge would he a great boon to the town a traffic one would bo still greater. Mr Drummy, the contractor for the foot bridge, said he could alter his plans and make a traffic biidge for about Tj3oo extra. The wish of the meeting was that it should bo done, and to carry it out D 52 was subscribed in the room. At Doctor’s Flat as yet no other claims but the prospectors’ have struck gold, though all are working with a will atid are sanguine of success. The prospecting claim is looking better than ever, and when in full work the yield it is expected will astonish the natives. On Monday last they declared a dividend of Ll5O per man, this, if I am rightly informed, was the nett returns for the labor of the party since Christmas, after paying all expenses of cutting water race, opening out'the claim, and putting p’ant on tho ground. Since then they have had a two hour’s run with a result of 20 ounces. Noble, Paget, and company, on Frenchman’s Point, are doing exceedingly well, and I am only surprised other parties do not try for a share of 'the good things they are gating as there appears to be plenty of ground in the locality. Thursday, the 9th instant, will be a red letter day, if not for Alexandra, it will be for the parties concerned. On that day Mr Allan Cameron, of this town, wifi lead to the hymeneal altar Miss Margaret Eobertson, the daughter of Duncan of ours of the Balmoral- If'ever a couple entered on the battle of life with the good wishes of their friends and acquaintances this one does, and I must join in with wishing them God speed. To descend from the theme of love and marriage to cold pork is simply monstrous, and I know you and your readers will say so, hut while speaking of Duncan puts me in mind of two glorious porkers he killed the other day, one weighed over scwt., the other over 4cwt., totting up to well nigh half a ton. How is that for high, umpire ?
