AUSTRALIAN JUVENILE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
We are in receipt of a circular from R. D. Bannister, Esq., the Honorary Secretary, which, besides stating that steps have been initiated for holding a Juvenile Exhibition in 1878, gives the object sought to be realised, and concludes with an appeal to every colonist for substantial aid to help in making the Exhibition a success. The Committee in laying the claims of the Exhibition before the public hope to make it realise the following objects : To enlist the sympathies and arouse the energies of the young people to compete in works of industry and usefulness; and impress on parents, their sons and daughters, the dignity ot honor and labor. To cultivate the inventive faculties of i those who are in trades, and show proficiency ; also those who may be following other occupations. To enable all to show their handiwork, and obtain now ideas from each other. To cultivate their minds for useful employment and recreation during leisure hours. To create a tasto for the fine arts and ornamental works, so as to make home attractive. The idea though not by any means a new one, as we have heard it discussed on more occasions than one,Jia nevertheless excellent, and deserves the hearty co-operation of all classes and in every colony. Any attempt to divert the rising generation in the colonies from the quagmire of horse-racing, rinhing, dancing, and other frivolities and vices it is now wading in, and direct them in the pursuit of something more substantial, intellectual, and ennobling should be greeted with open arms. We are promised by the Secretary farther and fuller information, and We shall be only too glad to give our readers the benefit of same immediately on receipt-
