MAYORAL ELECTIONS.

ALEXANDRA. The Nomination of Candidates for the Office of Mayor for the ensuing year took place on Saturiay last the 14th instant, when James Samson, Esq., the present occupant of the Office was alone nominated—ho was consequently re-elected, CLYDE. On the same day the nomination for the Office took place, and Messrs Samuel Welsford and William Auckland were brought forward. Each Candidate briefly addressed the small number of people who had got together for the occasion, after which a hearty vote of thanks and three cheers were given for the present Mayor, B. Naylor, Esq. So far there is but little feeling over the election, each Candidate being looked upon as eligible for tbo position, and each being held in about equal repute. On the day of Election tho 21st instant, when will be the tug of war, we shall expect, however, a change, aud we shall be but little surprised at a keen and close testCROMWELL. Tuesday tho 17th instant was the day appointed, and Mr J. Marsh and Mr S. N. Brown were nominated. The Cromwell Argus says—There was a good attendance of ratepayers and a fair amount of interest manifested. Mr Brown said up to within the last few moments he was not aware of another besides himself seeking the position or he would not have allowed himself to bo proposed, and by consent of his supporters, he would now retire—this, however, was objected to, therefore the poll willbe taken. From what we can glean it will be a keen contest, each party being anxious to secure their Candidate. QUEENSTOWN. Mr W. Warren and Mr F. Tnlly were nominated. NASEBY. Mr W. L. Busch was returned unopposed, ROXBURGH. Mr P. Ormond returned unopposed.
