ALEXANDRA.
(Contributed.) Considerable excitement is being manifested ovei the discovery of tho rich auriferous deposit at Doctor's Point, below Alexandra, which appears to be far more valuable than was at first thought. Eight claims are now taken up, and should all succeed hi striking gold, a fillip will be given to the prosperity of Alexandra. Situated as tho deposit is, fully 150 feet above the river level, and there being no water available, except for about two or three claims, a heavy expense will bo entailed in getting the dirt down to tho river, but if all are as nch as Bailey and Cameron, s, (the prospectors) they will well repay the necessary outlay. The money voted by the County Council for making a pack track to the Point is all expended, hut the track is not eompleted—tho successful working of Doctor’s Point, in a great degree, depends on this track, and it is to he hoped, therefore, tor the sake ot a few pounds, tho Council will not allow so necessary a work to be bl «t half finished.
