ALL ABOUT A NOSE.

—o— The following paragraph appears in a late San Francisco exchange :—“ A new and curious suit has just been commenced against Dr Lordca. proprietor of the Hummum Baths. It appears that a short time ago a gentleman visited the establishment for the purpose of taking a Turkish bath. He was an old soldier, who, at the battle of Gettysburg, received a sabre cut across the face, which bad ncatlj’ mown off almost his entire nose. A Parisian artist, of worldwide renown, had restored tiro gallant Colonel’s personal beauty by constructing for him a proboscis so natural and so elegantly fitting that his most intimate friends supposed it was real, and that it had grown quite naturally, during his trip to Europe. Unfortunately, however, there was some rubber and gum in the composition of the artificial nasal organ, of which, fact the artist had not thought it necessary to acquaint the Colonel, never supposing that he would subject it to a temperature of 185 degress Fahrenheit. However, the officer in question took his hath, and noticed nothing peculiar until he came to dress himself and took a look in the glass, when ho found that the extreme heat of the ‘ callidarium* ha 1 caused the organ in question to blister all over, and to bulge on both shies for at least half an Inch. It was impossible to detach the structure, which is so wedded to the actual outside that the two had grown together, and it will cost 1000 dollars in Paris to have the nose fixed on again, besides the expense of the trip. The hideous appearance of the poor gentleman can ho bettor imagined than described, and tbo worst yet remains to bo told. He was engaged to a beautiful young lady, who has since gone insane after seeing him in his altered condition, and all his associates avoid him when they meet him on tho street. Under these circumstances he has brought a suit against Dr Lordea for 75,000 dollars damages done to his feelings, 200 dollars for the loss of his bride, and 9,500 dollars for the original cost of his proboscis, trip to Europs, and repairs to same.”
