ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
[ iVc do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] FACTIONS’ FOLLIES. (TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUNST.VN TIMES.) Sir : —The writer who signs himself “ Vide ut Supra ” in the Cromwell Argus has evidently been educated in some hedgeschool, where the smallest taste in life of the classics has been supposed’to compensate for entire ignorance of the rules of a ithmetic, and where birch-rods were too expensive a luxury to be used for thrashing untruthful propensities out of him. He says that the cost of administration in the Vincent County is “ LISOO per annum, or Id per cent, of the whole yearly revenue of L 10,000.” If he will submit the figures to any small hoy, he will learn that LISOO is ‘.ess than 9.1 per cent, on LlG.fifiO. So much for his arithmetic ! But “Vida” shuts with a uotnnous|mis-stalement as every bo ly knows. The total cost of administration as appears by published records is no more than LlOdO, which is very little over t!. 1 . per cent.
His assertions on other matters of fact are so palpably and grossly untrue as to require no denial “The slime of the ser- ; eat is over them all.” Yours, &c,, Ithukiel.
