WASTE LANDS BOARD.

(From mir Dunedin Exchanges.) At the ordinary meeting of the Waste Lands Board held on Wednesday the 28th ultimo, the following business of local interest was transacted : Mr Timothy Gorman submitted a survey of section 1, block VII, Cromwell district, for approval in accordance with resolution of August 30, 1870. —Application granted. Messrs Vincent Pyke and James M‘Mantis applied for a seven years 1 lease under the Gist clause of the Waste Lands’ Act, 1572, to occupy 80 acres ot land on Bun No 325, for quarrying and removing marble. The Boai*i is willing to afford Mr Pyke every assistance to develop the industry, and will afford him every protection until he is in a position to make a more definite application. Messrs Howell, Loughnan and Cooks applied to purchase under agricultural lease, Section 2, Block 11, Tarras, and Section 13, Block I, Wakefield district.—Granted. Consideration of letter by Messrs Cargill and Anderson, stating that another block is being surveyed on run 365 in a manner so as to render the rest ot their run unavailable for working stock.— The Board resolved that McSsis Cargill and Anderson be requested to suggest to the Boai d a less inconvenient form of survey, and the Chief Commissioner ho requested to communicate with Mr Reid on the subject. The Switzer’s Mining Association forwarded a petition from settlers at Waikaia, requesting that Certificate of application in favor of Messrs Kelly and Russell for sections 10, 11 and 12, block I, Waikaia, he cancelled for the following reasons, viz. ; The tail-races from the auriferous land behind flow through these sections ;that they are most valuable for pasturage purposes for the township of Waikaia, are suited for recreation purposes, and adjoin lands valued at L 32 an acre. —Eormer decision of the Board to hold good. It is said of the late George Robins—lie “of auction renown, who made a large fortune by knocking things down”—that he spent occasionally as much as LSOOO a week in advertising !
