—o—- ' (From mir Dunedin Exchanges.) At the ordinary weekly mooting of the Wiiato Lands Board, held on tiie 21st ult., the Chief Commissioner, Mr J. I’. Maitland, in the chair, Mr Vincent Pyko requested protection for six months to prospect for a marble quarry on ran No, 325.—The applicant was recommended to take out an occupation license under section 91. Messrs Cargill and Anderson stated that another block of laud is being surveyed, on run 309, in such a manner ns to render the rest of the run unavailable for working the the stock in proportion to acreage taken.— Adjourned for a week, for information to be obtained fi'om the chief surveyor. On the reconsideration of the certificate of application for agricultural lease by Pearce Carroll for section 25, block 1., Cairn Hill District, the Board rescinded its previous resolution. A certificate of application for mining lease of the Scandinavian Water Race Company (registered), section 14, block 11,, St. Bathans, was submitted, and received the approval of the Board. Au application by John Nolan to take up eastern 150 acres of section 6, block VI., Rock and Pillar district, on deferred payments, was declined, applicant to take the whole 200 acres or none. A claim by Sir P. D. Bell, for determination of part of lease of run 201, being portion of block IX., Tiger Hill district, also compensation for fencing erected thereon, was considered and approved. An application by Walter John Vardlcy to purchase 203 acres, section 1, block 111., Highlay district, on Sir P. D. Bell’s run, with his consent, was approved. Sir P. D. Bell asked the Board’s interpretation of clause l()2u with reference to purchase of pre emptive right held under agricultural lease. Whether the lessee must buy within three and a half years from date of lease, or whether hs may purchase at any time within the latter four years of his lease.—After some discussion a decision was minuted to the effect that the Board’s opinion was that the runholder had the whole term of seven years within which to complete his purchase. The District Land Officer, Clyde, transmitted an application by W. J. Williams for a license to occupy five acres on the east side of the Arrow River, one mile below Arrow township, for quarrying limestone therefrom, under the 91st section of the Act.—Granted. The Secretary of the Switzer's Mining Association forwarded a petition from settlers of Waikaia, requesting that certificates of occupation in favour of Messrs Kelly and Russell for sections 10, 11, and 12, block 1., Waikaia district, be cancelled, and object to leases being granted for the following reasons, viz.: The tail-race from the auriferous lauds behind flows through the sections; that they are most available for pasturage purposes for the township of Waikaia, are most suiterl for recreation, and adjoin lands valued at 1.32 per acre.—The matter was adjourned until next meeting of the Board. The District Land Officer at Clyde suggested that section 1, block XVII., Prankton, bo offered at auction subject to a valuation of Ll2O for building thereon.—Approved, proved. The District Land Officer, Lake District, transmitted an application from Gilbert Mackie for depasturing license of Run No. 22, Wakatip Common, containing 20,700 acres, and formerly held by Ewen Duncan, with a recommendation that the run be offered at auction at a yearly upset rental of LI 50.—Approved. An offer of Mr W. Paterson to pay his arrears of rent and costs of Run No. 23, Wakatip, and to have the lease cancelled, was accepted. The letter was forwared by Mr Warden Simpson.
