ALEXANDRA TOWN HALL.
The entoristing ceremony of laying tho foundation stone of the new Town Hall, Alexandra, took place yesterday afternoon in the presence of a large concourse of people. James Samson, the Mayor, after placing hi a bottle one of each of the coins of tiie realm, from a sovereign to a farthing, together with copies of the Daily Times, and Dunstan Times newspapers, and a written document recording the event, and hearing the seal of tho Corporation of Alexandra, deposited the whole in a cavity prepared for It in a corner of the wall. The head stone avas then lowered into position, and the Mayor "declared it to be well and truly laid. He then briefly referred to the occasion as one to he long remembered by one and .all present, and hoped the building would ]>rove of that public utility it was intended to be. Cr Theyers and Mr Dalton, one of the contractors, also briefly spoke, after which all adjourned to the Library‘hall, where the usual loyal and local (.oasts were drank in bumpers and with honors. The utmost cordiality and good feeling was observed throughout tho prociedings, and if the beginning is augury of the ending we may prophecy that every heaity wish for the successful completion of the bui ding and its ultimate usefulness and benefit to the town and district of Alexandra will bear its own good fruit. Throughout the whole of the proceedings the Alexandra Brass Band w. re present,[and enlivened thesceuewith a selection af fiist-vlats music.
