WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The following items of interest we extract from the report of the meeting of the Waste Lands Board held on the 14th inst. The (flhief Surveyor forwarded a plan of block X., Glenkenich district, for approval. The following rcsohuion was minuted by the Board : —“ That the whole of block X., Ulenkeuieh district, be opened on deferred payments, and that Wednesday, the 29th of April next, be fixed as the date on which the land will lie open for application, the approval of His Excellency the Governor to he requested ; that the Chief Commissioner he requested to confer with the Chief Surveyor as to a block of suitable land to he opened for absolute sale. Too Chief Commissioner submitted a topographical map of run No. 20, with a report by the Chief Surveyor. The repoitis as follows : “ The Chief Commissioner Waste Lands “ Board of Otago. “ Run No. 20. “Memo.—Anew topographical map of this run haring now been got ready, and which 1 send with this for reference, 1 have to make the following report : “ Run No. 20, the lease of which expires in January, 1878, is not suitable for agri cultural settlement. This country is exceedingly rough and broken. The Silver Peak Mountains, with numerous spires, intersect it in every direction. The area is 30,700 acres, of which about one-third is , above 2000 feet in altitude above the sea level, and so liable to be under snow during winter. Neither is it possible, owing to the peculiar shape of the run, to re-divide it as one run in a satisfactory manner. To do so, it is absolutely necessary that runs 39 and 77 should he dealt with at the same time. Leases of these expire in June and July, 1873, and I would therefore suggest that the final disposal of No. 20 be postponed till I am in possession of the complete maps of these runs, when 1 shall be in a position to report on them all. 1 expect in a fortnight to have the map referred to. W. Arthur, Chief Surveyor. “ Purvey Office, February 13. 1877.” It was resolved that the recommendation of the Chief Surveyor should be agreed to. The Board then adjourned. The following letter was read : “To the Chairman and members of the Waste Lauds Board, Dunedin. “Gentlemen—As the leases of runs No. 4S, 51, and 52 are about to expire, 1 desire to intimate to the Board that the locality of these are contiguous to tho settled districts of I uapeka, Waitahuna, and Waipori, in which places there is a continual demand for land for boni tide. settlement, and I believe if the country comprise ! in tho above leases were open for application—pa 't for sale, part for lease, part agricultural lease and deferred payment, and small block for pastoral lease—it would cause a deal of settlement in the places. “ T. Matheson.” The fallowing applications for transfer of agricultural leases were granted ; J. W. Robertson to Henry Steel, section 21, block IX., Shotover district. Henry Steel to B. il.
