[We do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] '■—‘O—— THE ‘COUNTY SYSTEM. (to the editor of the Dunstan times.) Sir:—Now that the County System is fully established in this district, I hog to draw tho attention of the County Council to tho immediate necessity of placing a traffic bridge over the Manhuherikia river, near Alexandra. Tho County Council 'by doing this piece of work can prove that tho so much boasted of County System is really what it was represented to be—a benefit to tho up-oountry districts. 5n consequence of tho late rains people could not cross the river for a week, neither on horseback nor in vehicles. Miami Mrs Rees, of Galloway Station, returning from an up-country visit, had to leave then conveyance at Alexandra, not being able to cross the flooded river; Mr A. Fraser, Waggoner, having his waggon loaded with Wool Bud to ruraliso a full week near the Balmoral hotel from the same cause, and several instances of a like nature happened here last week by not having a bridge over the Manuherikiti, river. The Teviot bridge, now being open for traffic, and a good road on the East hank of tho Molyneux river, I think the people in'this part of the County are fully justified in requesting the County Council to build a good traffic bridge over the Manuherikia river 'near Alexandra at this end of the Teviot road. By reading the above you may think that it is only Alexandra benefitting by it, to a certain extent it may, but it is chiefly for the benefit of the County at large. The reason that it is mooted to place the bridge at this particular spot is simply that, there is no other really suitable and inexpensive place on the river within twenty miles, and also, being the shortest road from the Teviot to Blacks, besides, having a bridge here, the distance from here to the Serpentine digghigsis only about eighteen miles. Ydur’s &c.,—Resident. Alexandra, Feb. 13, 1877.
