ALEXANDRA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Counccil was held on Wednesday, February 14, 1877. Present: The Mayor and Crs Mackersey, Theyers, Simmonds, and Cameron. An application was received 'from the Town Clerk asking for leave of absence, which was granted. Cr Theyers drew the attention of tho Council to the rapid progress the Scotdh thistle was making within the municipality, He thought the Council ought to make some attempt to try and prevent what little grass there was from being destroyed, and he would move that a man be employed to dig them all up within the municipality. After considerable discussion, and the assurance from Or Theyers that a man could do it in four days, it was agreed to. Resolved on the motion of Councillor Mackersey that the Works’ Committee make arrangements with the Contractors to have the windows in the Town Hall put in higher, they being considered too low. Resolved on the motion of Councillor Simmonds that the Mayor be requested to lay the foundation stone of the Town Hall on Thursday the 22nd instant, at 2 p.m., and that refreshments be provided for the occasion. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Alexandra Brass Band, asking them if they would oblige by giving their assistance during the ceremony, and to play for a dance in'tho evening. The usual vote of thanks to the Chair closed the meeting.
