ALEXANDRA SCHOOL.

The monthly meeting of the Alexandra School Committee was held in the Schoolhouse on Monday evening last, the Cth inst. Present : Mr R. Finlay (in the chair) and Messrs Brown, Theyers, and Rivers. The minutes of previous meetings having boon confirmed, tire outward and inward correspondence was approved and received. The principal business consisted of a letter forwarded by the Secretary to Mr Jlislop, Secretary to the Education Board, asking for advice how to act in the matter of Mr E. Goulding’s resignation of the mastership of the School, that gentleman having refused to receive the usual three months’ notice, stating that ho had accepted the appointment without ...,y stipulation to that eii'oct, and in the event of the Committee declining to accept of one month’s notice, ho would consider his own interest and terminate the engagement at once. Mrllislop’s reply was to the effect that Mr Colliding should ho made to give the requisite three mouths’ notice, hut as it would bo both difficult and costly to enforce his compliance if he left for Greymouth, and advised the Committee to accept the month’s notice, also suggesting that it would ho well to ascertain if Miss Colliding was to go or remain.

When can a lamp be said to bo in a bad temper ? When it is put out. Upon men of small understanding nothing makes so deep an impression as what they do not understand. There are two reasons why some people don’t mind their own business. One is that they haven't any business, and the other is that they haven't any mind.
