THE LATE MR A. E. B. THOMSON.
—o — It is with very deep regret that we have! to record the death of a gentleman very well known and much esteemed among us. Wo refer to Mr A. E. B. Thomson, late Sheep Inspector for the district, who died at his residence, Clyde, yesterday afternoon, the 23cd instant, after an illness of two weeks. As a true and kind hearted gentleman, Mr Thomson was known to a large circle of friends, far and wide through New Zealand, and many a heartfelt regret will he expressed when the fact of his death becomes known. A considerable part of Mr Thomson's colonial life was passed in the neighboring province of Canterbury, but he was also intimately connected with the early pastoral interests of Otago, having owned, in partnership with his brother, the Eocklands Station ■at Strath Taieri. In his late capacity as a Government official in the sheep department, Mr Thomson, by his urbanity and kindly disposition, gained the confidence and esteem of all with whom his duties brought him in contact, and his place will be hard to fill. The deceased gentleman was only in his thirty-ninth year at the t : me of his death, [ but the severe and repeated attacks of ( illness to which ho was subject during the | last few years, had proved too much for a I constltitution already, to ah extent, under- j mined by the exposure and hardships inei- I dental to the life of an early settler, and despite the unremitting attention of his ( medical adviser. Dr Button, and the anxious | ; care of his friends, Mr Thomson, as already t; slated, succumbed at half-past one yCsterday afternoon. The funeral will leave for the Clyde I Cemetery at three o’clock on Sunday after- | noon, the 2Gth instant. vmmmmpszmmmmmmmsmßßßm \
