Tho minutes of the last two meetings wero read and confirmed. ,
Tho outward correspondence was read and approved.
Tho inward correspondence was. read and received from W. H. Hastedt, askiftg the Council, to use their influence with the Govemmeilt to get the charges on tho Molyneux Perry reduced from sixpence to threepence - for foot passengers. The Town Clerk was intmeted to reply to the letter informing-Mr.Hastedt tfiatthe Council cannot interfere oh account of the punt being private property. From Mr H. tohill* offering to remove the rock at - tho head of Tarbert-street, and-form three chains of the 1 street for the sum of L 5. Referred to the Works Committee. Resolved—That Crs Cameron and Sim- : monds be elected.the Works Committee,d'Mackersie and Theyers Finance. Resolved—That the nominations of candidates for the'bfflce of auditors be held- at noon on Monday, the 7th day of August. ' The Town. Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Hazlett for the rates duo on the estate of Mr James Rivers. .
Resolved—That two valuators be appointed, fee to be one guinea each. Applications to be sent in to the Town Clerk on or before the Bth August.
Resolved—That the .Mayor be requested to send a telegram to Mr Pyke, asking him" to ascertain the reason why the Warden's Court is held here once a month instead of every fortnight. 1 Cr Simmpnds gave notice to move at the next meeting— I That the Council .take into consideration the advisability of building a’ Town Hall. “•
Accounts to tie amount of L2l 5s were passed for payment. Cr Theyers wished to know the amount ef the Town Clerk’s salary.
The Town Cleric informed him that his salary was L3O per annum, with 3 per cent, ■on all money collected (with the exception of rafcos and subsidies), .and a shilling each for dogs and goats v The total amount for the current year would not exceed L 46.
