ROXBURGH.
(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) On the evening of Wednesday, the 6th instant, a Soiree was held at tho Athenosum in connection with the Presbyterian Church. There was a largo attendance, and is is said that about forty pounds will bo placed to the credit of tho Committee, towards defraying the expense of building the Manse. The Rev. R. Telford occupied the chair, and addresses were delivered by the Rev. Mr Drake, and Messrs Salter, Green, and Marsh, and the following was the programme of the evening’s entertainment Anthem— “Prodigal Son’’—Choir ; Hymn —“Ring the bells of Heaven’’—Choir ; Anthem—“Ye glorious hosts above’’— Hymn—“ Whosoever will”—Choir; Song—- “ Too late” -Mr J. Reid ; Reading—- « Mary Queen of Scots” —Mr Campbell; Ooublo trio—“ Rend your hearts, and not year garments” ; Selections on tho Pianoforte—Miss M- Mackay; Hymn—“ What will tho harvest be”—Choir ; Solo and Chorus—“Tho Life-boat”—Choir; Song—- “ Home they brought her warr or dead”— Miss Mackay; Hymn—“ Washed in the blood of the Lamb”—Choir; Hymn—- “ Scatter seeds of kindness”—Choir. A vote of thanks was then proposed by Mr Marsh to the ladies and gentlemen who had so kindly rendered their services, and had succeeded in making the Soiree a great success. The meeting was brought to a close by all present singing the hymn “ Sweet byo-and-bye,” and tho benediction pronounced by the Rev. Mr Drake. A very pleasant evening was spent, and it may be said that this was the most successful of the kind held in Roxburgh.
