A MAN KILLED BY A MOUSE.

—o — An extraordinary occurrence was brought to light at an inquest in South London, held on the body of a man •who met his death under somewhat peculiar circumstances. From the evidence it appears that in a workshop where many females wore employed a mouse made its appearance on the table, causing, of course, considerable confusion and a general stampede ot workwomen. The intruder was, however, seized by a young man who was present, but the mouse slipped through 'his hand, and darting up his sleeve, came out at his waistcoat and shirt on his neck, His mouth was open, and the animal, seeking for some convenient place for refuge, got into his mouth, and in his fright the unfortunate man ■swallowed it. It has long been a belief thatamouse could live some time without air, and unfortunately in this case at proved a feet. The animal commenced biting and gnawing the inside •of the man’s throat and chest, and the poor fellow died about half an hour after in the greatest agony. Several witnesses having corroborated the above facts, medical testimony was given as to the cause of death, and a verdict of accidental death was returned The mouse has been preserved in spirits of wine, and has been placed in the museum of the London Hospital.
