CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

—o— Tho usual monthly meeting of tho Council was held in tho Council Chambers, on Wednesday, tho sth instant. Present: —B. Naylor, Esq., Mayor, and Councillors Wolsford, Mooro, Ilastie, and G. Paohe. Tho minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence was read, received, and adopted. Letters from Mr P. J. Wilson, to tho effect that the regulation 8 of the regulations re Hawkers’ Licenses, as submitted to tho Governor, was disallowed on account of its embodying tho existing law, was accompanied by draft of fresh regulation with tho suggestion that the proper cour»o be adopted with respect to it as to make it law. Unsolved, That a special meeting of the Council bo held on Wednesday, tho 19th hist., at Bp. m., to consider the draft regulation as proposed by Mr Wilson, and now on the table. The Mayor stated that a fresh lot of 15 starlings had been received from the Acolimatizaton Society, and let loose. Discussion ensued respecting locality of present rubbish and manure depot. Cr Facho thought that if the rubbish and manure of the town was continued to bo deposited in tho present depot the remedy would bo worse than the disease. The Public Works Committee were empowered to select another site, and to close the present depot. Accounts amounting to L‘2S 13s 4d were passed for payment. The Town Clerk was instructed to look up all correspondence and other papers relating to the Clyde Bridge, and lay same on the table at the next meeting of the Council. Question as to whether the contractor was justified in allowing travellers to cross the bridge free of charge. The unanimous opinion was that the Council had no control of either Mr Grant or the Bridge, but at the same time were of opinion that Mr M'Pherson, the owner of the punt, was justly entitled to the fares, and suggested that tho Council should, in so far as laid in its power, assist him in the collection of all fares until the bridge was officially handed over to them. It was decided that tho Water W r orks Committee meet on AVednesday evening, the 12th inst. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceertings.
