Holloway s Pills —Liver and Stomach. —Hot weather, with chilly mornings and evenings, always produces derangement of tho digestive and assimilating organs, which demands early attention. For the speedy cure of indigestion nothing equals Holloway's Pills. They have long been recognised both at home and abroad as the safest and most effectual remedy for sick headache, pains in the stomach, nervousness, flatulency, biliousness, nausea, simple and bilious diarrhoea, dysentry, dry skin, and torpid bowels. Holloway’s Pills protect the system from the deleterious effects of malaria and variable temperatures, thus proving themselves most valuable at this season, when the organs of digestion are most sorely tried. They may bo advantageously taken without hindrance to business or pleasure. Science and Art.—A striking instance of the immense value a small piece of steel may acquire by the great power of skilled mechanical labor, is the balance spring of a watch. From its extreme fineness and delicacy four thousand weigh not more than one ounce, and exceed in value £IOOO. A most interesting little Work, describing tho rise and progress of watchmaking, has been published by J. AV, Benson, of 2b, Old Bondstreet, and the City Steam Factory, 08 and CO, Ludgate hill, London. The book, which is profusely illustrated, gives a full description of the various kinds of watches and clocks, with their prices. Mr Benson, who holds the appointment to the Prince of Wales, has published a pamphlet; on Artistic Gold Jewellery, illustrated with beautiful designs of Bracelets, Brooches, Ear-rings, Lockets, &c., suitable for wedding, birthday, and othc r presents. Illustrated catalogues sent post free for two stamps each, and they inimot ho too strongly recommended to those contemplating a purchase, especially to residents in tho country or abroad, who are thus, enabled to select any article they may require and have it forwarded with perfect safety. ROWATT’S PATENT ANUCAVNIG SAFETY KEROSENE LAMP. THE difference between the Anucapnio Safety Kerosene Lamp and the ordinary lamp is, that instead of only having one brass dome or cone above the flame, Mr Rowatt, the Patcnteee of tho new burner, uses two domes, the one inside the other. The inner dome creates the usual draught of air rushing up to the flame, common to all kerosene lamps ; but, in addition to that, when tho outside dome gets hot, it devours up a powerful current of air through the space between the domes, which meeting the inner current at tho flame disposes of all smoke or smell, for whatever of these may escape the first dome is caught and burned clean by tho second one. The flame is the same shape as the ordinary lamp gives, but much more brilliant, white, and steady. A handsome shaped globe, which • never breaks with the heat, shelters the flame from any sudden draught, while a siraule piece of wire guzo, resting on the top of the globe, lias the effect of making tho flame perfectly steady, preventing down draught and keeping it clean from insects. The whole invention consists in the double dome, one inside the other, by which arrangement the combustion produced is much move perfect than can be git from a chimney lamp. It is perfectly simple and without any liability to get oilt ot order. They can he had complete from 5s each and upwards.
