The question of the irregular attendance of the Resident Surgeon in the Wards was here brought up. Mr Samson said, so far as he could learn, Dr Allen was giving satisfaction throughout the district, and he thought when the Committee had a good doctor they should do everything they could to keep him. It should be remembered that Dr Allen was the only surgeon in the district, and had to visit Blacks, Drybread, Alexandra, and other places, and necessarily had to be occasionally absent from the Hospital He thought if it was deemed necessary that the doctor should be punctual in attending twice a day the Wards of the Hospital the only way would be to increase the salary, and restrict within certain limits the private practice. He did not know but what that would be the best, as then an inducement would be offered to another medical man to locate himself in the district. After further discussion it was resolved that the further consideration of the subject be deferred until the Annual Meeting, which was fixed for Saturday, the 29th inst., at 2 p m.
The Secretary was instructed to write to the various collectors and invite their attendance at the Annual Meeting, The Treasurer and Secretary were instructed to prepare annual reports, and to submit same to a meeting of the Committee on Friday evening, the 28th instant. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting. • - n
