ARROWTOWN.

—o—(FROM OCR CORRESPONDENT.) What with the elections and the Christmas festivities we have been provided with plenty of excitement lately. The nows of Mr Pyke’s election for your district by such a large majority was received with considerable satisfaction. Why he deserted us is difficult to explain, however, now that he b again in Parliament it is to bo hoped that ho will pay us a visit and explain matters, wo will give him a patient hearing. The general impression hero is that he was frightened away by Mr Manders continually writing him down in the Wakatip Mail, but really he had no cause to he frightened at such a bogey. Mr Pyke’s election would have been almost assured bad he have come up again. The candidates before us now are Mr Manders, Mr Cope, and Mr Bradshaw. Of the latter gentleman I know hut UtUo except that hia coanootsen with the

sale of the Island Block and the auriferous land at Switzers, while that ho locks up a copper lode at Moko Creek, has rendered him odiously famous in my eyes. lie appears to he the nominee and favorite of a certain squatting party up hero, but among the fanners and minors ho will obtaiu but few votes. Both Mr Mandors and Mr Cope are old residents in the district, and have really exerted themselves and done some good for the district, and deserve to be supported, and there is little reason to doubt but that ono of them will be returned. There is nothing like a local representative it we can get one. Mount Ida has determined upon this, and 1 should like to see the Wakatip follow suit, although it may suit the interest of a laud-grubbing clique to think otherwise.
