O A special meeting of the Council was held on thn 16th of November. 1575. Present';” The Mayor, and a full meeting of Cmmc : l. The outward correspondence, coosiVing of a letter to the Superintendent, re thp Waik''a Bush Road, and one to the Provincial Secretary, in reference to the vote of LISO for the Dunstan road, were read and approved. The following tenders were received for work to h e done in Tarbert-street: Janies Thomson. LIo ; Tohill and Dewar, id 9 9s 61. It was re-olved that the tender from Mr James Thomson be accepted. A letter from Mr J. C. Chanp’e, complaining of earners camping in front of his place ; also, an account against tho Council for L2\ for damages hy loss, inconvenience, and annoyance, sustained through the action of the Town Council in allowing carriers to camp in Crook haven and Tarhert-atreet. It was resolved that a notice he posted at the comer of Crook haven and Tarhert ■ street, requesting carriers to earap three hundred yards further up the flat. Accounts to the amount of Ll2 2s 6d were passed for payment. The usual meeting of ths Council took place on the 24th of November. Present: The Mayor, and a full meeting ,of Council* lore. Tho Minntes of the last meeting worst read and confirmed. A letter from the Provincial Secretary was read, stating that tho mad to tho Waikaia Bush would lie proceeded with u soon as funds were available. The Mayor said ho was not satisfied with tho reply, and unless they obtained soma assistance from other municipalities the road would not he made. The Council,were of the same opinion, and resolved that tho reply should be sent to the Corporations of Clyde, Cromwell, and Roxburgh, requesting
their co-operation in urging upon the Government the necessity of commencing this road without delay. Messrs J. C. Chappie and G. Ratoliffo were appointed valuators for the current year. A special meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday, the Ist of December, for the purpose of inspecting the plans for the Town Hall. Seven plans were sent in, and after considerable discussion it was resolved that the prize should he awarded to the plan submitted by Mr James Simmonds, of Alexandra, and that he should be requested to make some slight alterations suggested by the Council. The Town Clerk was instructed to apply to the Waste Land Board for a grant of 15 acres of land, situated next the dam belonging to the Corporation water race.
