CRICKET.

Clyde v. Cromwell,

The opening match of the season was played on the 9th instant, the Prince of Wales Birth day, on the Clyde ground under the most favorable circumstances, the weather being splendid, and the ground in excellent condition. The wickets were pitched atfabout eleven. TheCromwellians, confident of scoring a win first handling the willows, but as their men returned to the tent with but very small figures to their names, they in a measure altered their tune, and confessed their weakness, explaining, as a cause, the loss of soma of their best men, who were unavoidably absent. Wo will hot attempt 'to detail the play, but leave it for our readers to judge from the statmont of scores appended, from which it will I>o learnt that the victory was on the side of Clyde. It has been attempted to raise the question that tho teams were unequal, as Clyde by apiece of great good fortune had succeeded in enlisting on their side two outsiders That the assistance of those two gentlemen,‘Messrs Handyside ami Robinson was great, there is no denying yet had tho two moral) rs of tho Club, whom these gentlemen wore in place of been pro sent, there is no doubt but that tie rcsul^

would have been the same. Throughout the game tho boat fooling waa exhibited, and the decisions of tho umpires were on every occasion taken as law, and at tha close of tho game a hearty vote of thanks was accorded thorn, (Messrs EatclifTo and Rico.)
