Royal Duke was got by Champion, (well known to be tho best horse imported to this Colony), out of the celebrated maro Jessy, imported in 1863, by Messrs Emmery and Straghan, from Tasmania. The same year she gained the Taieri Agricultural Society’s first prize for the best colonial bred maro, and the second prize for tho best draft mare at the show, beating Mr Nithmo’s black marc imported direct from Scotland, and the following year took pnzca both in Dunedin and the Taieri, Terms, £4. Groomage, 5s ; payable at first service. Guarantees by arrangement; and all demands payable to the Groom on or before the Ist of February, 1870, when the season ends. An enclosed paddock of 200 acres for mares, free-of charge ; strictest care taken* but no responsibility.

Goldsmiths’ Work. —The process o£ fine-art manufacture in this branch o£ trade is strikingly exemplified in * little work published by Mr. J. W. Benson, of No. 25, Old Bond-street and of the City Steam Factory, 58 and GO Ludgato-hill, London. It is enriched and embellished wi tlx designs, by Italian, French and English artistes, of brooches, bracelets car-rings, and other articles, suitable for personal wear, or for wedding, birth-day, or other presents, with their prices. Mr Benson, who holds the appointment to H. lt.H. tho Prince of Wales, has also published a very interesting pamphlet on tho Eiso and-Progress of Watchmaking. These pamphlets arc sent, post free, for two stamps each, and they cannot bo too strongly recommended to those contcmplaing a purchase, especially to residents in tho country or abroad, who arc thus enabled to select any at tide they may require, end have forwarded in perfect safety.
