ROXBURGH.
(FROM a CORRESPONDENT.) October 4, 1575. On Thursday, the anniversary was celebrated of Coiirt Roxburgh, A.0.F., by a supper and balli'aftd wasi-exogCdingly well attended. Fortunately, the rala-'did not commence to fall till after the guests had assembled, of whpm about 120 sat down to supper, which was of an, excellent description. . The tables and. ball, were decorated with great taste, and presented a very gay appearance. After supper, the C.R., Bro. J. Harris spoke a few words in connection with the Order, and expressed the great pleasure he felt in seeing so many friends around him. The Secretary, Bro. T. Coop, then gave a statement of the progress and finances since last year’; which was very satisfactory. Success to Court Roxburgh was proposed by Mr W, C. Hodges, and received with great applause;' Souvs followed ;.t int°rvals The toasts of “ Kindred Societi s” and “Ladies" being proposed by Bros, Turner and W. Cooper, and responded to by N.G., John Ryan, M.U. 1.u.0.F., and Bro. J. J. Smith—the latter gentleman doing so in a very delicate and facetious maimer. Before the tables were cleared Bro. T. Coop called on all pre eut to join him in thanking Mr and Mrs Orn ond for the very excelhnt entertainment provided by them, and wishing them long life and prosperity, which was accordingly done with great enthusiasm, and Mr Ormond in reluming thanks sai l that it afforded him great pleasure to fin.l that his efforts to give satisfaction had met with their approbation, and it would always be his endeavors to devote his strict attention to the carrying out. of such entertainments that mi dit he placed under his care. The hall was then speedily cleared, and darning was commenced about half-past ten, and continued till dayliuht. As there was a large number of'tbe fair sex present, there was not that difficulty j n obtaiuing partners common on snob occasions. Thus passed off the second anniversary of the Court of Roxburgh, perhaps the most successful undertaking of the kind that has taken p’ace in Roxburgh, the arrangements being excellent, and not a single hitch oca curring to mar the night’s enjoyment. The property known as the Co it Creek Hotel will he disposed.of by public auction on Tuesday, the 12th, instant, and not on the 1 Ith as at first notified, on account of the Horse.Shnw which fakes place at Roxburgh on that date. The house is being pulled down, and will be sold in lots to suit P’v-bnsers. As Mr Ayling is leaving the district everything will be sold without reserve, an I I hope to see a good attendance on the occasion. v
