ROXBURGH.

(PROM A CORRESPONDENT.) September 13, 1875. At a mooting of tbo Town Council hold on Monday the Cth instant, there wore present John Brighton, "Esq., Mayor, and Councillors G. F. Machny, J. Glass, IV Boyd, H. Bees, and James Woodhouse. The minutes of the previous meeting w -ro confirmed as read. The Mayor rovl communications received by him from J . B, Bradshaw, Fsq., M.II.

R„ re Abolition Bill, and extension of Railway from Lawrence to Clyde. Accounts were presented from H. Evans, and Lucas and Co. for work done in the Municipality. The account of 11. Evans was passed for payment, and the Town Clerk was instructed, to write to Lucas and Co., informing them'that tbo Council had agreed to pay L2O on account of extra labor in llawick-street, and requesting them to furnish a specific’ charge,; stating rate per day. Letters were received from H. Glover, and P.-Eickards concerning rental 'fixed by the Council for land occupied by them on the Corporation Reserve, and it was resolved that the Town Clerk write to Messrs Grover and Rickard stating that the Council can see no cause to depart from their previous intimation with regard to the rent fixed by them. The Entertainment given by the Members of the Band of Hope on Friday tho 10th instant under the patronage of the Good Templars, in aid of the-School Funds, was exceedingly well attended, not only by the residents of the Teviot, but by persons residing at a distance. The young folk were very happy in 'the selections of recitations and songs which were left entirely to their own choice, and gave great satisfaction to thoir parents and friends. Mr G. Ireland on returning’thanks on behalf of the audience said that he had been highly amused and hoped that •‘gatherings would 'be of a more frquent occurrenc. ( i Shares in two claims have changed hands ' _uring the last week—E. WillgossJ having sold bis share to T. Grover, arid G. Bidgood to 11. Waight, lately in the employ of Mr John Beighton. Mr Bidgood realised a good sum for bis shire, and parted with it owing to a’eerious illness under which he is and has been suffering for some time past. Mr Wiligoss also relinquishes mining owing to failing health—he is a thoroughly genuine man, whose friendship is. highly valued, and will be greatly missed at the Teviot, hut we are happy to say he will still he located in the district. The letter which appeared from “ Practical Geologist'” in the Tuapeka Times on road making extraordinary eeems to have gained the object for which it was penned. There is a report that the men working between this and Alexandra have been discharged. It is to he hoped that such is not the case for it appears that the men, ■with the exception of a surface man,' were steady and temperate, neither given to indiscriminate hospitality, nor entertaining strangers, but did their Work honestly.
