The Pall Mall Gazette says in the event of another seige, 70,000 dogs would form a valuable aid to the sustenance of the inhabitants of that gay city, who have shown themselves equal to eating even rats on an emergency. Within the last day or two the country has spoken with no uncertain sound on the question of the Abolition Bill now passing through the House. At Wanganui, Invercargill, Irwcll, and Lcithfield the people are undeniably in favor of abolition ; and for their sake, as well as that of the rest of the inhabitants of this Colony, the sooner the bill is passed and becomes law the bettor. So says the Otago Guardian, but wo were not aware before this Sir Oracle spoke that two second rate towns, ono small village nineteen miles from Christchurch, and some other village, unknown even to the posta authorities, constituted the country.
