Nil (U-sporandum ! No, never despair ! Let this he thy motto—all times, everywhere— To nerve thee for duty, and calm thee midst care. Nd dcsperandnml Hope’s spark may he feeble, yet need not expire ; The breath of true ooura2Q may fan the flame higher, And patience be cheered by a bright glowing fire. Nil despcr.vndnm! Whensoe’er thou art thwarted by fortune or men. Buckle on perseverance and try yet again ; When success is attained, thou wilt bless defeats then. Nil dosperandum ! Should want cast its shade on thy pilgrimage way, Shout, “ The Lord will provide !” and ere long thou may’st say, When praise has arisen for mercies each day Nil desperandum. Do the billows of trouble now over thee roll ? Remember that Love keeps unfailing control Over every event, for the good of thy soul. Nil desperandum ! Through Satan assault thee, and strive to fulfil His purpose to poison affections and will, The Lord of the heavens is nrghter still ! Nil desperandum 1 And when death comes at last to. claim the frail clay, Calling up all thy sins in o’erwhelming array, Trust that One who has suffered to bear them away. Nil desperandum !
