NASEBY.
, (FUOM cub OW.SCOKIIKSPONDF.NT..) : August ,3j Municipal matters are still topics of talk.On Wednesday last the nomination of Conn cillofs for the various AYards took place as fellows East Ward, N. P. Hjoring, (standing for re-election) and E. T. George, (the defeated Mayoral candidate) Smith Ward ; Walter Ruler, (standing for (reelection) and G. F. Rowlatt. The election took'placeto day, resulting in the-‘rejec-tion of the two'last year’s Councillors. -The Councillors elected for the year then are—. Messrs A. Craig, E. T. George, and G.-F. - Rowlatt, What result will ensue from the infusion of uew blood into the Council remains to be seen. AVe anticipate a little warm work for a few weeks, until the new members adopt a side, and settle into the Orthodox humdrum style. The declaration ' of an eighteen-penny rate for the ensuing year created a feeling against the old Cofmril, which some say alo-e placed elected - Members in the position thoy bold. The Warden’s Court was occupied list week in-the hearing of an unusual case. ? A party;of miners had, in -marking 'off a . claim, placed one of their pegs in the middle of a path or track,. which some persons are in the habit of using, thus causing an obstruction. The track was not surveyed, nor proclaimed by the Corporation, but the fact of its being used as a path by various persons legalised it, under the Gold-fields’ Act. The miners had'to pay a fine, and all costs. Naseby is a great place for concerts, lectures, dances, &c. Within a fortnight two such entertainments have taken place, and realised good results, and in last week’s issue of our local paper, three notifications of entertainments appeared, ail :to come off within three weeks. Besides these affairs, we have a weekly quadrille party in the Town Hall. When you take into Consideration that the attendants of all these amusements are necessarily nearly all the same people, some conception may be formed of how pleasure-loving a body the Nasebyites are. Sickness has been prevalent of late, chiefly from rheumatics, almost! invariably inflammation of the lungs attacks the patients , in conjunction: with their other diseases. The Quarterly General Meeting of the Naseby Good Templars was held last night The Lodge seems to be in a sound financial state, and the number of members : has increased to a very satisfactory degree. The fine weather has changed. Sunday morniug was a bright, warm summer’s day, not a cloud was to he seen in the sky, but towards evening, clouds began to assemble, and during church time snow fell. In less than an hour it was nearly two iholies deep. It continued during the night, and by the morning there were between five and six inches on the flats. It still continues, with 110 sign of abating, - so that we may roasnnably expect a foot of it before it is finished.
