RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, ALEXANDRA.
Moxt> ay, July 19th, 1875. (Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M.) Rivers v. Gibson.—Claim, L 3 7a, for goods supplied. MrF. J. Wilson, who apappeared for defendant, applied for an adjournment to enable defendant, who resides in Dunedin, giving his evidence there.— Adjourned till 16th Angpst, Tohill v. Ah Gin.—Claim, L 9 2s 6d, for horse hire and loss of whip. Judgment by default. Rivers v. Ke Sang.—Settled out of Court. Chin Sing was charged, under information by the Police, with selling lottery tickets. Mr F. J. Wilson for accused. Constable Jones deposed having seen the accused pass some tickets to another Chinaman, and receive money for same. Could not produce any of the tickets. Could not swear they were lottery tickets, but knew' from his own knowledge they were. Knew the accused as being one of the principals in the lottery shop in Alexandra.—There being no direct evidence of proof that the pieces of paper passed from accused were used in connection with a lottery, the Bench suggested that the charge should be withdrawn, which vm accordingly done.
