NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF MAYOR, CLYDE.

—o— Friday last, the day appointed for" the nomination of Candidates for the office of Mayor, of the Town of Clyde, brought two gentlemen to the fore, Mr B. Naylor, the late occupant of the office, and Mr J. D. Feraud. As both gentlemen are well known, and it being surmised that each was going in on a widely different ticket, a more than ordinary intercst was felt, and at noon, the hour appointed for the reading of the nomination papers, quite a crowd had collected. The form of nomination being gone through, and the day of election named, Mr Naylor came forward and said it had not been his intention of again contesting the seat had one of the councillors come forward, but such not being the case, he did, and he could only hope he would be placed, on the day of election, at the top of the poll. He had now held the position two years, during which time many works of public utility in the town had been completed, and others had been'begun, and he thought it but right that he shcrtld have the satisfaction of having finished during his occupancy of office what had been so well begun. He had ever attended to the duties of the office conscientiously and fearlessly, and if again elected he would ever try so to do.

Mr J. D. Feraud said it afforded him great pleasure to be in his present position ; he, however, would wish it to be understood that he did not desire to be Mayor for either the honor or the pleasure, but it was rather that the coterie lound the present Mayor -and his opponent—should be broken. Had anyone else come forward, he would not, but being nominated he hope I to returned, when the ratepayers might make sure that justice would be done them. Hq considered that the duty of the office had been neglected. After a little wordy sparring further proceedings were adjourned till Wednesday, the 2lst instant, the day of election, when the poll was taken with the following re suit : Naylor ... ... ... 45 Feraud ... •• ... 35
