COMMODORE NUTT.

— o — following has been translated from a French journal by a correspondent of the Talbot Leader :—Paris, Bth November. A remarkable funeral took place the other day. An American dwarf, who called himself “ Commodore Nutt,” who died here a few days ago, was taken to his last resting place, the chief mourners being the members of the American show in which he had been exhibiting. First came a giant, a little over seven feet high (the celebrated Chang) ;noxt, the travelling agent of “ Commodore Nuttthen an A merican by the name of Gibbs, and known as “The Skeleton;” after which, a woman with three arms; and last, but not least, tour trained dogs, the intimate friends of the “ Commodore,” who would not appear in public without them. All the mourners were deeply affected, especially the giant. After the funeral a great crowd had gathered outside the churchyard, and the police, fearing a disturbance, hired cabs, and persuaded the mourners to drive singly mnd unobserved to their homes.

A judge in North Carolina was a great stickler for forms. One day a soldier, who had bden battered considerably in the war, was brought in as a witness. The judge told him to hold up his right hand. “ Can’t do it, sir,” said the man. “ Why not V “ Got a shot in that arm, sir.” “ Then hold up your left.” “ Got a shot in that arm, too, sir.” “ Their,” said the judge, sternly, “ you must hold up your leg. No man can be sworn, sir in this court by law unless he holds up something.”
