MOUNT IDA.

—o—(FROM OUR CORRFSPOKDF.ST.) Naseby, Bth Feb. Everything is very dull here in the shape of gold mining. The long season of dry ■weather that ove have lately experienced has very seriously interrupt'd the water supply, and scarcely any miners are at ■work. I' is said that the Government head race will be bringing in water from some of the tributary streams in the course of a month, and which will greatly ass : at mining enterprise ; hut when the ra'c will be finally completed it is difficult to determine. With an increased -water supply, to the extent of f orty heads which the Govern-

ment race promises to bring in. Na'ehy should recover a large amount of its wonted activity. How t)ie novernment propose to deal with tlie distribution of the water, or how th'ov will manage the race no one can ted. Perhana they have decided to complete the work first, and see about the mnnagnmen* of the affair afterwards. The Sludge Channel is versing on completion, and, so far as experiences 30 to prove, it should prove a success ft is all a question of water sunnlv and fall foe tailings hc-e. With these facilities secured there will he employment here for rainy years to come for a considerable population employed in goM-mining. Clarke’s, at Muratßßulers l er is tnrnhig out well. Tt was elmited in evidence in a case heard in the Warden s Court, last week, that miners there were earning I.°il ner man a week.

Town improvements are progressing. The New Town Hall is fast verging towards completion, and .already the 1 furnitn-e is being placed in position. The Hall is much larger than von’-s at Chain. and its total cost will amount t n at. least t.2300. The staoe accommodation is in fact it is almost too lar e to mv fancy, as a small theatrical company wi’l be lost upon it. It is beino fitted with a handsome prosnenimn, and with the finishing tonchf s completed it wi’l look exceedingly well

Von’ - ol 1 fnend Mr War Ten Ra'inson, awcars to h've quite' recovered from Ids la*e serious indisnosition. and like a= at the Dunstan, he is a universal favorite, his nentle-nanty eondnet havin'; secured him many friends. Mr Robinson is en"a"ed making a very larm garden at his new residenee. and the work is a very difficult .and eosCy on o , soil bavins' to be removed to a depth of three feet, and fresh loam carted

Mr B. A. Biel’, late Cold Reviver at Alexandra an ! the Arrow, is ticurin'; away am on us t the living. and the old house from Alexandra looks t,n have been quite renewed ; its tresh'v-paioted appearance and enmrnan b‘ng position where it is nosy set no, is a decided improvement unon the old snot. The crons in the neighborhood look pretty well ; they have of course suTe"el to sonm ex f ent. by the drought, fit-ill they are a ' decided improvement upon what I saw in the valley of the Manuherikia, about Blacks, and neighborhood.
