CLYDE SCHOOL.
—o— The annual mooting of residents for the nurposo of electing a School Committee for the ensuing year, took place in the School House, Clyde, on Monday evening last, at 7 p.m. About twenty persons were present, of whom B. Naylor, Esq., Mayor, was elected to the chair. The moating being duly opened the chairman called on Mr A. J. Donniston, clerk, to read the report of the retiring Committee. REPORT. Annual Report of the Committee for tho year ending December 31st, 1874 : Your Committee’s teim of office having now expired, in accordance with the usual custom they beg to present the annual report and abstract of accounts. The number of scholars on the roll at tho close of tho year appears—-Boys, 44 j girls, 35. The average daily attendance, 58. These numbers, as compared with last year’s return, show an increase of 6 and 8 respectively. The sickness which prevailed so generally amongst the children of the town for some weeks previous to the closing of tho School materially affected the attendance during that time, otherwise the numbers would have showed a still more favorable increase. At the same time the Committee desire to urge upon parents tho necessity of sending their children with greater regularity to school, as otherwise the children lose much of the habit of close application, and the labor bestowed on their education is to a great extent thrown away. Financially your Committee are glad to be able to state the affairs of the School aro in a healthy condition, showing a credit balance of L 3 lls Gil. The total amount of liabilities is Ll9 14s Sd ; against which tho School possesses recoverable assets, amounting to L 23 118 9d ; showing an absolute balance in its favor of L 3 17s Id. During the year your Committee have received from the Government the sum of LB2 ICs 3d, which has been expended by them in necessary repairs and additions to the School premises. While congratulating the district on this 1 satisfactory state of affairs your Committee desire to take this opportunity of thanking | those ladies and gentlemen who have, at different times, and in various ways, rendered valuable assistance in raising funds ; and also the public, who have at all times liberally supporto-* their efforts. The Committee cannot close this report without expressing their high approbation of the manner iu which Mr and Mrs Stevens in their respective positions as master and i mistress of the School have fulfilled their onerous duties, and beg to congratulate th'e I parents of children in tho district on tho possession of a lady and gentleman so eminently fitted for the positions which they occupy. To them, and the interest taken by them in all things pertaining to theprogress and welfare of the. children under their charge, may be attributed, to a great extent, the state of efficiency in which the Committee are to be able to hand over to their successors the Clyde District School.
