CONCERT AND BALL.

On Friday evening, the Ist inst., after the races detailed above, an Amateur Concert, followed by a Ball, was given in tho Library Hall, Alcxrndra. on behalf of tho Dnnatan District Hospital. The programme, which comprised songs, duets, readings, negro business by the Alexandra Minstrels, and full band overtures by the Clyde Brass Band, who were in attendance, were got through without a flaw, and greatly to tho satisfaction of the audience as was evidenced by the raptuious applause which followed each piece. Too great credit cannot be accorded to the ladies and gentlemen who g& e their services on the occasion, and the thanks of the Committee of Management of the Institution, also of the recipients of relief are due them for their exertions. To particularize any of the performers would not only he invidious but unkind, as each came forward in the ends of charily, and if cue excelled another in execution all succeeded in giving satisfaction. We must, perforce, however, make exception in favor of the Alexandra Minstrels, who, though laboring under the disadvantage of having one of their troupe indisposed, fairly succeeded in carrying tho house with them ; also, in favor of a new resident of Alexandra, a Mr F, A. Simpson, whose character songs were well rendered ; and finally of the Clyde Brass Band, whose overtures, which interspersed the Concert, and whose music for the dancers may fairly be set down as the- main attraction. We cannot close this notice without congratulating the people of Alexandra on the successful manner they carried out both races and sports, concert and ball, and in wi King the new year so happily commenced may be as satisnctorily terminated wo feel we but do our duty. -
