CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

A special mooting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last, the 9th inst. Present—B. Kay lor, Esq., Mayor ; and Councillors Hnzlett, Beck, Welsford, and Cox. The business of the meeting was as follows : —To receive plans and specifications of bridge across the Molynoux at Clyde, as forwarded from the Provincial Engineer's Office.—To arrange for calling for tenders for the erection of same.—The transacting of pressing business on Order Sheet of lapsed meeting of thn 2nd inst. The plans and specifications of bridge wore then laid on the table, examined, and approved of.

Resolved, on the motion of Cr Hazlett— That tenders he invited for the erection of a wire suspension bridge over tho Molyncnx, in accordance with plans and specifications as laid on the table of the Council.

Resolved, on the motion of Or Welsfonl —That a Sub-committee, consisting of the Mayor, and Os Hazlett and the mover bo appointed to arrange for advertising for tenders for the bridge.

Councillor Wclsford asked if it was intended to apply the monies now to the credit of the Corporation, and the general revenue of the Town towards constructing the bridge. The Mayor said it was. The arrangement made with the Bank of New South Wales was, not to borrow any demote sum, but to overdraw their account ; therefore, the more monies the Corporation had, the less there would be to borrow, and consequently less interest to pay. He might say it, however, was not intended to stop all works in favor of the bridge, but he hoped the Council would not ask for the expenditure of any monies, unless for works abso-

lutely required, and essential to the well being and health of the town.

Or Hazlett and Cox concurred in the re marks of the Mayor.

Cr Wclsford said he was induced to ask the question more for the information of the ratepayers than himself, and so that a direct understanding on the point should be come to.

The Mayor said, steps were being taken to bring flic Municipal lands on which the Town Hall and Library are built, under the “ Land Transfer Act,” and to complete the same the respective value of tbe properties were required. Ho would ask the Council to state the values. After discussion the value of section 31, .and part of section .'lO, was fixed at LICOO ; and of balance of section 30, at 1.50. Notice of appeal by A!r D. M’Pherson was read, against assessment on punt, on the ground that the punt was on Crown Lands, and was the property of the Government ; and against sections 1" and 19, block XXIIf, on ibo ground of over value. The Mayor was empowered to instruct -Mr F. J. Wilson, solicitor, to watch t\p.tf|ipeal (Pi behalf of the Corporation. The Mayor stated he had, as directed at a prev ions meeting, reported to the Central Board of Health in regard to the general sanitary state of the town, accompanying his report with one from Dr Thomson (for this report we refer our readers to another column.)

There being no further business the meeting closed with the customary vote to the chair.
