Dunedin - , Dec. 3rd. The new Governor the Marquis of Normamby arrived at Auckland this morning. A qnarryman working at Port Chalmers was killed this morning. This morning the consecration of St. Matthew’s, Episcopalian church took plaoo, the ceremony wpa performed by the bishop in the presence of a very largo congregation.

The St Andrew’s Handicap protest case is causing much excitement ; the protest is as follows “ Protest was by HenryGoodman, Jockey, against the owner of Mabel f>r pulling, or causing to be pulled the said Mabel in tire St. Andrew’s handicap, also, against the rider forpulling the said mare.” The evidence of Goodman, Mr G. Dobson, the starter, and Mr Pitman was taken in support of tire protest, all swearing that the marc was wilfully pulled round. For the defence, the rider of Mabel, Andrew Mltcbollson swore that bo did not pull the mare, but in evidence bo somewhat qualified this statement by saying that be bad seen bettor men than himself make mistakes. The Stewards decided that the mare bad been wilfully pulled, and disqualified the rider from over riding on any course over which the Dunedin Jockey Club have any control. The portion of the protest concerning Captain Hutchison, the owner, and the mare, was postponed for a week to secure further evidence. The Captain deeming this na an insult, tendered bis resignation as Vice President of the Club.
