DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The adjournedusual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management of the above Institution was held on Monday evening last, in the Committee Room, Town Hall, Clyde. Present—James Hazlett, Esq., (President), and Messrs Stevens (Acting Treasurer), Clark, Beck, Hastie, Holt, Cambridge, Auckland, and George Fache (Secretary.)
The minutes of previous meetings were road and confirmed.
The inward and outward correspondence was read, received, and adopted. The Visiting Committee’s No. 1 report was, in substance—That Mr Beck, as member of the Visiting Committee, and the President and Secretary, as ex-officio members of the Committee, had v.Ated the Institution, They had made enquiries as to the quantity of coal supplied during the last two months of Mr Marie's contract (1G tons) of which four or five tons had gone to slack and was utterly useless ; and had been informed that no officer of the Institution had ordered it, but that it had been received on the assumption that it had been ordered by the Visiting Committee ; that they hail instructed the Secretary to write to Mr Marie, requesting him to remove the slack ; and had also, left instructions that coal be ordered in future the same as all other goods through the Visiting Committee ; and recommended that the account be held over pending some arrangement with Mr Marie. The report was adopted.
Mr Marie’s account was now laid on the table, and exception was taken to two items, 25s each, for carting the Hospital kitchen range to and from the Hospital to Clyde. After discussion, the charge being excessive it was decided not to pay them. Report No. 2, recommending payment of accounts for salaries, stores, medicines, &0., for September, amounting to L 94 13s 7d ; and for October,(L9l 17s 2d. It was explained that in the last month’s expenditure was an item of Ll7 for repairing damages to Hospital building by the late gale. The report was adopted. The Surgeon’s reports for September and October as follows was read and received. Report for September. Patients in Hospital August 31 13 Admitted during September 9 Discharged 10 Died 1 Remaining September 30 11 Report for October. Patients in Hospital September 30 11 Admitted during October 11 Discharged 13 Died I Remaining October 31 8 The report stated that the patient who died in October was from Spear Grass Flat, and that he was totally insensible when brought into the Hospital, and never rallied. The Treasurer’s report, as follows, was read and received. Receipts. L 323 6 3 The Secretary in reply stating that ho had not received a reply to letter written, or received the amount collected by Mr I*. Kidd on the Cromwell Race Course for the Dnnstan District Hospital, was instructed to again write. Mr J. E. Stevens was elected Treasurer. The Visiting Committee were instructed to procure cocoa-nut matting for the Alexandra Ward, also, to s-o about re-papering and lining passages and rooms blown down by the late gale. Mr W. Auckland and Mr C. P. Beck consented to act on the Visiting Committee for another month. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting-
