BENEFIT SOCIETIES.

(T3 THE EDITOR OK THE DDNSTAN TIMES.) Sir, —Will you allow me through the oo umns of ycur journal to express my views with regard to the establishment of a Lodire of “ Odd Fellows” in this town, not with the purpose of throwing a dam-p-r on those n ho are endeavoring to do so, as 1 truly believe in the establishing of as tn4uy Institutions of the kind as possible,

but still at the same time have au eye to the welfare and the carrying out those already in existence. Lodges of Odd Fellows and Forresters wherever they have been started, ’have hod a most beneficial effect upon all who have; had the misfortune to fall on the funds of either, and their objects being identical, 1 would submit to the consideration of the promoters of an Odd Fellows’ Lodge, vhether it would not be better to join the Foresters, which has now been in existence the last eight years than, as it were to open an opposition Lodge to the one that is now languishing, not for the want of funds, but purely for the want of an interest to be taken in it. It is qulte’evident to me that if successful in the opening of a Lodge that the end sought will be defeated, for that there will not be sufficient members to efficiently carry out the same, and at the same time will effectually stop any increase to the number of members to the Foresters. The only object that 1 have in stating my objections is that I would rather see one Lodge in a flourishing condition, th’a two poorly supported, neither of which would be a benefit to the members, or a cedit to their Order. I am, 4c., Forester. Clyde, Nov. 4, 1874.
