A MODERN WILLIAM TELL.
—o— A French journal reports a horrible parody of William Toll’s great feat performed by a weaver at Saint Etienne, who enjoyed the reputation of being an excellent marksman. In order to give proof of his skill, he took his gun and wont into the garden with his son, a lad twelve years of age. Here lie desired his sou to place a 1 otato on his head, and to stand about fifteen paces off. The son obeyed, the father fired, and the potato was cleft in, two. The neighbors present at this shocking performance shook their heads dubiously. He therefore repeated the experiment, and though the boy was obliged this time to hold a lantern, owing i to the increased darkness, tin father fortunately hit the mark.
