also that a Doard of qualifb-d Director s shall he elected from among Ihe C'nuivuittee to advise with the General Manager, and generally watch the interests of the whole lu-titution. 4th. As soon as a sufficiont number of shares shad have been applied for to warrant the commencement of business, the Head Office will he opened in Dunedin, in suitable premi-es already secured under oiler, and thereafter Branches will gradually be opened in the Chief Centres of Settlement throughout Iho Colony. sth It will be the chief aim of the Promoters of the Bank to aid and conserve alike the interests of the whole community in this Colony. The Mercantile, Trading, Pastoral, Agricultural, Mining, Artizan, and Laboring Classes will each have fair treatment and support from the Colonial Bank. To the Mining Interest special attention will be given, with a desire to acquire for the miners the Mint value, for their Gold, whether in large or small quantities, and until such value can he ascertained a liberal advance will be made upon any, Gold deposited for the purpose of Coinage. Cth. It is not intended by the Promoters that this Dank shall purchase Gold, but merely he prepared to make advances upon it until realised, in the same manner that it «i”l be ready to do upon wool, grain, or other produce. 7th. The amount of New Zealand money in the hands of the three Banks from Australia trading in the Colony on the 31st of of December last, ns shown by their severa returns furnished to the Government, appear thus, without giving odd numbers: Deposits. Circulation Total. Union Bank of Australia £170,000 £123,425 £009,425 Bank of Ne« South Wales 500,000 104,849 004,849 Bank of Australasia .. 193,000 38,902 231,009 SL owing a total of ... £1,890,230 Or nearly two millions of money belonging to Colonists entrusted to Boards of Directors in Melbourne or Sydney to control or manipulate as it may please their tastes, or as it may be convenient for the good of Commerce in Victoria or New South Wales, or for the beneficial regulation of their exchange operations in those Colonies. Slh. The Promoters, in placing the foregoing facts before the people of this Colony, desire to point out the very great disadvantages that Colonists are sure to labor under by lending—or rather giving—such a large sum of money as stated above to foreign Banks, to lie lent back to the people here at very large rates of interest, and ou most arbitrary conditions. They therefore have no hesitation in suggesting the prudence ami wisdom of the Colonists keeping within their cwn domain the absolute control of their own moneys ; as by so doing they will most effectually destroy the risk of future monetary disturbances which they have had on more than one oceation to deplore iu the past, brought about solely by some crisis that has oc- [ currcd in one or other of , the Australasian ! Colonics, where the interests of the foreign I Banks most strongly take root, j 9th. It has. been determined by the Promoters that the first issue of 200,1)00 shares f shall bo conducted by Committees, to be I pointed severally in the chief city of each j Province; and no shares will bo given or I reserved to the Promoters : but each member of the Provisional Committee is willing to become a subscriber for tiie number of Shares standing opposite to his name. The Act of Incorporation for this Bank will he so framed as to limit tho liability of the Shareholders to twice tho the amount of their Shares, the same as tho other Banks. 12lh. As a thoroughly Colonial Institution, tho Promoters have ir.mh pleasure in strongly recommending The Colonial Bank of New Zealand to the support of all Colonists having the real welfare of New Zealand at heart. Such an Institution is much wanted at tho present time, and as the development of the Colony proceeds its usefulness will also increase, and bo more and more appreciated, both as an investment for tho savings of the people, and as a useful Bank. Judging from the inilucnco and sound experience possessed by the promoting members if the Committee, it is certain that no similar institution has ever vet been launched ia the Southern Hemisphere under better auspices, Applications fur Shares will now ho received at the Temporary Offices of the Bank High-street, (late Club), where forms of ap’dcafion and full information can ho obtained ; or from Benjamin Naylor, L'sn., Clyde.
