The report goes on to any that the con-liiK-a*al Dade in preserved meats is in- <_• -easing,and in those parts »[Europe where their uses are understood the con.sumptmn promises to he a large one. From South America large supplies of very cx ccllent preserved meats are to hand, and in order to increase the supply of beef, generally deficient in quantity from Australia, the Directors are making arrangements tor accepting the agency of a company about to be formed in Texas. From Illinois, U.S., shipments of ox tongues in sweet pickle have been received, and find a ready sale, 'i'iie Company is also receiving mutton hams, butter, jams, dried fruits, and v. ineq the whole of which [are favorably received by consumers. In dealing with results the Director's say, while the pecuniary results of the Company’s operations have ueen of the most gratifying character, we •cannot but refer, with what we doom pardonable pride, to ether ami more widespread influences,. It cannot be doubted that the su,.ply of preserved meats has had the effect of arresting tiic upward tendency in the price of fresh meat, increasing the food supply of the kingdom, and consequently promoting the health of the people. The report of the Managing Committee, after dealing with the difficulties they had to encounter in introducing preserved meats, owing principally, if not exclusively, to the prejudice existing among a largo portion of the artisan community against its use, express their gratification in stating that, in every instance where properly p-e----pared, they have been hr. tight'under the attention of the artisans, and the result lias been satisfactory. Doth reports close with expressions of platitude to Mr D. Tallevman, the Managing Director, to whose tact and energy the success of the scheme is principally attributable.
