The Dunstan Times.

FRIDAY, • MAY 8, 1874.

Beneath the Puile of Men entirely just the pen is mightier than theawoiiD.

Tiip.oucw tlie overturning of Cobh and Co’s coach on Wednesday morning when within a few hundred yards of Clyde, and just after start - ing for Tnapeka, one of the passengers named 1 ohli'Lecs was so much injured as to necessitate his removal to (he hospital, the others, thirteen in number inclusive of ;lie driver, we are pleaded to say were uninjured. Tlie passengers ucre quickly transferred to another < oach and started again on their journey, which we hope terminated move pleatantly than it opened. The cause of this accident is to lie • raced to the Clyde Town Council for not having tlie roadway within the*limits of tlie Municipality defined and' cleared of the numberless rocks that are strewed about in every direction, and over one of which the coach was capsized. The Council have no exrn e to advance for leaving this most necessary piece of work undone, as they have plenty of funds at their disposal Their negligence is most culpable, and the accident may be fairly sec down at their doors, and further, is suilieientfor thcGoverunrent to soundly rate the Municipal wiseacres, lor not performing their part of the compact that was entered into, —viz., to construct all roads within tlie Municipal boundary, in consideration of all License fees being paid into the Municipal exchequer, together with the sum of 300/. Two years have elapsed since tills arrangement was made, that is, the Council have received two years license fees besides the ] 300/, and up to this, so far as we can see nothing has been expended on the roads. We think it high time something was done, and we hope tho necessity will not. again arise to cause us again recur to the subject.
