“ They speak English here.”—At one of the hotels in Paris visitors are infonned by the carte that “ Phases prices its not ervaluable'wen they vegetable erres nows ’ which in English means, “ Those prices do not hold good when the vegetables are not in season.” The issue of crowns and half crowns has been suspended ever since 1851. Florins have been coined recently at a great rate. Xearly seven million llorins were coined in the year IS7—, and about three times that number were coined in the twelve years, lSul-72. Half crowns were issued so long ago as in the reign of Queen Mary ; the ilorin was introduced in 1849.
